Epilogue

A day ahead of schedule, so I can permit myself a rest day! A walk to the beach, to shine my shoes (did ot arrive as far the night before) and brew some tea (to use the last gas), and of course a visit to the local pubs! I stayed in Sandra's backpackers hostel, a much recommendable accomodation.

The next day the 06.51 train to Inverness (time to buy a haggis and have a pint at the traditional Phoenix pub), and then via Aberdeen to Edinburgh, staying in a student home and visiting the well-know music pubs Bannermans and Whistle Binkies.

For the final return trip I took the train as far as Carlisle, where I had hoped to go once more via the famous Settle and Carlisle line. This was closed for works however, hence it went to Preston and further to Manchester Airport for the flight to Brussels.

This was a very pleasant trip, I had come home with a good experience richer and with nearly a stone less, just hoping this last one doesn't come back too soon!

For me, Scotland remains the unique walking paradise, the only area within 600 miles from Belgium where one finds a combination of:

The humidity (not a big deal, only had to endure a few showers) and the annoying insects are minor drawbacks which do not weigh against the advantages, these problems are quickly forgotten when enjoying a good dram of whisky!
