Arrive in Inverness by Caledonian Sleeper, the most civilized way of travel. Local shopping (oatmeal!), real ale at the Phoenix and bus to Ullapool. A last couple of pints of real ale at the Assynt hotel, and another local bus to Inchnadamph. On the bus I chat with a French girl heading the same way, but as she's only got her sneakers she can unfortunately not head for the hills.
I set off for the first walk by 6pm: a leisurely 3 miles, climbing 1000 feet up the valley of Allt Poll an Droighinn and further to Loch Fleodach Coire where I find a nice pitch. Venison sausages for dinner! The weather was nice for the day, but it rained most of the night.
