I had arrived in Scotland the day before, taking the Caledonian Sleeper to Inverness. Local shopping (oatmeal and other foodstuffs, gas, and a Snugpak sleeping bag I had pre-ordered at Macpherson mountaineering shop), train to Kyle, and bus to Uig to stay on the local campsite there, with a meal and a few pints at the Bakur bar.

Next morning boarding the Hebrides to Tarbert, have a nice Calmac breakfast, and set foot on the isle of Harris. After the obligate visit to the tweed shop, head on for the first walk, over both paths and local roads southeast to reach Liceasto, a campsite run by two friendly homosexuals. The site is unusual: laid out in the landscape rather than flat, with pitches on different levels surrounded by vegetation and old thatched cottages used as community and sanitary rooms. Nice sights over the Minch, but clouds gathering and the rain banging all night over the flysheet. Walked 8,6 miles today.
