After bacon and eggs for breakfast and a morning stroll around Leverburgh I board the Loch Portain crossing the Sound of Harris to Berneray. Walking to the other end of the island I check into the Gatliff hostel, located in a few old thatched cottages. A long afternoon walk shows me most of the island, where the locals are harvesting tatties on the machair.
Back in the hostel I have a haggis dinner with a bottle of Scotch wine. The other patrons are a mixed bunch: a retired English intellectual architect, a French fisherman and a Danish woman.
11,7 miles today, in dry weather, with a spell of sunshine even!
