It took an early bus from Monymusk via
Kemnay to Aberdeen - where I met the NTS minibus again! - and on the
201 to Braemar where I donned my glengarry and started walking just
after noon. The first 6 miles on the road to the Linn of Dee, via Mar
Lodge, and then the track, which started in good conditions. Near the
White Bridge however there was a first glimpse of problems to come:
patches of snow and deep, wet slush which was tiring to cross and wetting
the feet. I reached my planned destination, beyond the ruined bothy
in Glen Geldie (NO00098689) and found a nice spot to pitch. Time for
dinner (bacon with pre-steamed rice). The first night was cold however,
and disturbed by rain noise. This first (half) day, I was able to cover
11 miles.
