Rain had struck from midnight to the morning,
and I set off when it had stopped near 10, continuing through the unpathed
and boggy wilderness. The weather was good, but descending to Loch Cuaich
the rain started again until I had reached the head of the loch. On along
the hydro aquaduct which goes all the way to Dalwhinnie, crossing under
the A9, only major road to be met on the whole trip. A short break for
an Irn-Bru at the petrol station, and then following Loch Ericht on the
private road to the palatial Ben Alder lodge, where I headed into the
hills. By dusk I pitched on the wet moor
(NN55987845), under the rain which had started once more. Performed 17
miles today, and nearly back on plan! |
